• Vacancy : PhD position in ‘Bibliometrics and research evaluation’ at the RSLIS, Copenhagen
Posted by Frank van der Most on February 7, 2012
The Royal School of Library and Information Science (RSLIS) in Copenhagen has a vacancy for a 3-year PhD student, which is a paid job in Denmark. The main aim of the project in which the candidate will be involved is “to investigate to what extent bibliometric indicators can be used in the evaluation of individual researchers”. An analysis of different existing indicators should lead to identification of their respective strengths and weaknesses with respect to evaluation of the work of individual researchers. Based on this analysis the project is to propose a set of indicators which is suitable to address the individual level, rather than the more aggregated levels which most existing indicators address.
The project is part of the FP7 funded ACUMEN project, which aim is to develop a portfolio with which individual researchers can present themselves for different forms of evaluation. Current forms of evaluation are often not geared to evaluation of individuals, either by design or by resource and time restrictions. The portfolio together with guidelines for improved evaluation practices are to address these and other problems in current evaluation practices. The indicators resulting from the PhD project can be part of such a portfolio.
Besides training and research, also other work such as teaching can be part of the job.
The deadline for applications is 1 March 2012.
